My regular yoga classes were canceled this week, so I looked around for other classes I might attend. I found Bikram Yoga Alpharetta 15 minutes from my house with a class schedule I could meet. My first class was Tuesday night at 6:30. Bikram is hot yoga. The room is heated to 105 degrees and kept at around 40 percent humidity.

Wow! Here is a short video offering a glimpse of how it works…

The class lasted 90 minutes and involved pairs of 26 poses. I made it about 45 minutes before the teacher instructed me to stop attempting poses and to just watch the other students. I spent much of the second half of the class sitting cross legged because I got dizzy standing in the Mountain Pose (Tadasana).

To prepare for class I had drunk twice as much water as is normal for me and I drink a lot of water. I am a prolific sweater, but am sure I set records in class. I was still sweating when I got out of the shower that I took immediately after class.

The class ended at 8, but I did not get home until almost 9. I ate supper immediately, but had trouble winding down and getting relaxed enough to sleep until 10:30. I get up for work at 5:30, so it was a short night. I woke up with pleasantly sore shoulders and no idea what made them that way.

I am writing this post just before doing my light day workout with kettlebells. I’ve been drinking water like crazy all morning and hope I am hydrated enough to last outside in the hot sun. I am sitting here thinking I will try to make the 5:30 Bikram Yoga class tonight. Hmm. Maybe if I get a nap this afternoon.
