This was my first week of completing all 50 get-ups with the 35 pound kettlebell. I wobbled a few times during the week, but overall the transition was much easier than I had expected. I plan to continue with 35-pound get-ups in the coming week, but may start doing some with the 44-pound kettlebell in week eight.

I changed my swing program Tuesday when it was too cold to work outside without gloves. My gloved hands did not fit well for two-handed swings, so I abandoned them for one-handed swings. To soften the transition, I went back to doing 5 with my left hand and then 5 with my right hand for sets of 10. By the end of the week, I was cranking out a pair of sets quickly and getting through all 100 promptly. I can feel the strain of all the one-handed swings, but think it is manageable. When the weather is warm enough, I may start doing some sets of two-handed swings with the 70-pound kettlebell.

My current S&S program

Prying goblet squats
16 kg kettlebell – 3 x 5 = 15 reps, 525 pounds

Goblet squat curls
16 kg kettlebell –3 x 5 = 15 reps, 525 pounds

Halos: 16 kg kettlebell – 3 x 10 = 30 reps, 1050 pounds

One-handed swings
24 kg kettlebell – 10 x 5 L/R = 100 reps, 5300 pounds

Get-ups
16 kg kettlebell – 5 x 1 L/R = 10 reps, 350 pounds

Total weight: 7750 pounds

I have been calculating the weight of the 24 kg kettlebell as 52 pounds. I checked an online calculator today and found that 24 kg = 52.9109 pounds. I am now calling the 24 bell 53 pounds.

I am following the template from Pavel Tsatsouline’s new book Simple and Sinister. My strength has increased each week since I started. Part of that is from doing a modest amount of hard work five days per week and part of that is surely the particular work that I am doing – goblet squats, halos, swings, and get-ups.
